Just one more example...

A girl poses in front of a Nazi flag somewhere in Taiwan. She is obviously unaware of the association she is making and is likely totally clueless about world history. Taiwanese tend to be very inward-looking. Hopefully this will change over time but I'm not crossing my fingers.

Use the Google search to the right to search for more of my articles about Taiwan and Nazism.

There is a bar/lounge near 淡江大學 (top of the mountain on library street side) that has a giant nazi flag in it. I wasn't there, but apparently it offended not only the Russian exchange students, but more so the German exchange students. However, in Taiwanese fashion, "It didn't matter...this is TAIWAN meaning."

Sometimes the views from the island astonish me. But, somehow, we all can't help but keep going back for more...哈哈.

The German students were pissed? Imagine how Jewish tourists and expats feel. Seeing a Nazi flag plastered on the side of a scooter during a Shabbos walk did not make me very happy. Being Shabbos, I knew I couldn't deface it either.

I can imagine, but I knew no Jewish tourists/expats when I was in Taiwan, so I could only offer up my own personal experience. And, I believe, they had the right to be pissed, being that it represents an horrific period in their country's history that they have nothing to do with, but are thereby associated with.

Maybe, someday they will realize the reality of that swastika.

Cheers.
